Vagamon KottayamVagamon is an enchanting hill station located on the Idukki-Kottayam border and is 64 kilometres away and throughout your way to Vagamon you will find gardens and beautiful meadows. Vagamon is located some 1100 metres above the sea level. It has a cool climate of 10-230C during the midday of the summer.
Reaching Vagamon through the meandering road that was cut in solid rock lined with pine forests and as you wind through the green capped mountain you will see the rolling plains which lie beneath thousands of feet. This itself will provide you with an extraordinary experience.
The tourist spot is surrounded by the greenery of tea gardens, beautiful meadows, deep puzzling valleys, pine forest, fresh cool air, and dales. All these make it an ideal getaway for tourists. You can walk along the mist covered zigzag roads that wind up the hills, you can go for adventures like trekking, paragliding or rock climbing, etc.
Religious Aspect of VagamonThe hill station comprises of three beautiful hills called Thangal Hill, Murugan Hill and Kurisumala that further adds beauty to this beautiful hill station. In the Kurisumala hill a famous pilgrimage for Nazrani Catholics where cross is put-up in each sub hill stations. There is an ashram in Kurisumala called Kurisumala Ashram. Indo-Swiss Dairy Farm Project is located on the Thangal Para on Kurisumala hill and is being managed by Kurisumala Monks. The breeding centre of Kerala Live Stock Board is also located here. Murugan Hill is situated near Thangal Para and a temple for Lord Murugan is situated here. Thangal Hill is the centre for Muslim pilgrimage. The unique rock formation found there is sacred to Muslims.
Near the rock formation lies the dargah (tomb) of Sheikh Fariduddin, a Sufi Saint from Afghanistan who lived and died here some 800 years ago. There is also an ancient cave in this beautiful place and trekking through this cave would be an adventurous one. There is also a masjid in the lower part of the rock and a small water pool is found there. It is said that the rock was originally small stone and was used by the said to grind pan and grew enormously. Abbas Moulavi used to recite Quran sitting near the tomb. During the Annual “Urs” festival hundreds of pilgrims throng this place and the main offering is Ganjusakkar (Sakarakanji).
Thus, this hill station becomes important for Hindus, Muslims and Christians.

How to Reach Vagamon from KottayamNearest Railway Station: From the Kottayam Railway Station head towards Southeast on the Railway Road and pass by Lions Club of Kottayam Child Welfare Centre situated on the right and turn left towards Main Central Road/State Highway 1 and at the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto main central Road/State Highway 1 and pass by the H S S Hospital on the right and turn right at Ettumanoor Jct and continue onto Ettumanoor-Erattupetta-Poonjar Road/State Highway 32 and pass the Ettumanoor town Juma Masjid on the right side and take the sharp right to stay on Ettumanoor-Erattupetta-Poonjar Road/State Highway 32 go through 1 roundabout and pass by the Reliance Petrol/Diesel/Gas pump on the right in 9.6 Km and turn left at Muttam Jct onto Erattupetta-Peermedu Highway/State Highway 14 and turn left at Muttam Jct onto Erattupetta Muttom Road/State Highway 44 and take the first right towards Erattupetta-Peermedu Highway/State Highway 14 and turn left at Panjayath Road and turn left onto Erattupetta-Peermedu Highway/State Highway 14 pass by Nadackal Bhagavathi temple on the right side and turn left towards pullikkanam-Elappara Road and turn right towards Pullikkanam-Elappara Road and take the first left onto pulikkanam –Elappara Road and at 400 m you will find Vagamon.
