IlaveezhaPoonchira is a beautiful hill station spread over 1000 acres and is situated amidst the three beautiful hillocks namely Kudayathoormala, Thonippara and Mankunnu. There is a Valley amidst these hills and is every nature lover’s delight. During monsoon a beautiful lake is formed at IlaveezhaPoonchira due to excessive rainfall.

According to the mythology, the pool was used for bathing by Draupadi, the wife of Pandavas during their stay in that place. When some devas eyed her, Lord Indra surrounded the pond with heaps of flowers. This is how the place got its name which literally means a floral pond where leaves do not drop. Also, there are no trees or plantations on top of the hill. Hence, no leaf falls down.

IlaveezhaPoonchira in KottayamThe place is situated some 3200 feet above the sea level and ideal for trekking. This place is easily accessible from Palai in Kottayam District. This place is ideal to see the sunrise and sunset. The panoramic view from the top is so outstanding. District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) is working towards popularizing this place as it is ideal for trekking.

Nearest Railway Station: From the Kottayam Railway Station head south-east on railway road and pass by Lions Club of Kottayam Child Welfare Centre on the right and turn left towards Main Central Road and at the roundabout take the second exit onto Main Central Road pass by the H S S Hospital on the right side then turn right at Ettumanoor Jct onto Ettumanoor-Erattupetta-Poonjar Road and pass by the Ettumanoor Town Juma Masjid on the right side and take sharp right to stay on Ettumanoor-Erattupetta-Poonjar Road pass by Reliance Petrol/Diesel/Gas pump on the right and at the roundabout take the first exit onto main Eastern Highway/Pala-Thodupuzha Road and pass by Indian oil petrol bunk on the left and turn right at Kollapally onto Anthinad Melukavu Road and pass by Chaithanya Residence Association on the right side then Anthinad Melukavu Road turns slightly right and becomes Kollappilly Muttom Road pass by State Bank of India on the left side then turn left at Shoppe Sasangadhri for Shopaholic onto Muttom – Neeloor – Pala Road then turn right onto Karikunnam- Muttom Road/Kumarakom –Cumbam Road pass by the St Thomas High School on the right then turn left onto Erattupetta Muttom Road/Karikunnam- Muttom Road/Kumarakom-Cumbam Road then pass by St Thomas High School situated on the right side then turn left onto Erattupetta Muttom Road/Karikunnam-Muttom Road/Kumarakom-Cumbam Road pass by Government Hospital on the right side turn right onto Kumarakom-Cumbam Road/Thodupuzha-Moolamattom Road/Thodupuzha-Puliyanmala Road and pass by St Mary’s Church on the right then turn right towards IlaveezhaPoonchira Road and then turn right onto IlaveezhaPoonchira Road. From here one has to hire the jeep to climb the hill.

Nearest Bus Depot: From the KSRTC New Bus Station Thodupuzha head southeast on Thodupuzha-Moolamattom Road/Thodupuzha-Puliyanmala Road and pass by best fuels on the left and turn left onto Kumarakom-Cumbam Road/Thodupuzha-Moolamattom Road/ Thodupuzha-Puliyanmala Road pass by St Mary’s Church on the right then turn right towards IlaveezhaPoonchira Road and then turn right onto IlaveezhaPoonchira Road. From here one has to hire the jeep to go up on the hill.
